CARDINALE ANGELO BECCIU :”Mi sia consentito in chiusura, sig. Presidente, un breve chiarimento che credo sia a vantaggio della Verità, ed anche utile al Promotore di Giustizia per far luce su una vicenda esplorata anche nel corso di alcuni interrogatoriresi da Mons. Perlasca,
Per oltre un anno sono stato esposto ad una insopportabile pressione pubblica, con la vergognosa accusa di aver addirittura finanziato false testimonianze in danno di un confratello, il Cardinale Pell, con i soldi della SdS.
Voglio ora spazzare via questa gravissima insinuazione con le parole del Cardinale Segretario di Stato, Parolin, che ha accertato e dato conto della assoluta falsità di questa ignobile e insopportabile illazione.
Consegno al Tribunale la lettera del 29 aprile u.s. nella quale, tra l’altro, il Cardinale Parolin afferma testualmente che: «Il Cardinale Pell continua a sollevare dubbi circa il trasferimento di 2,3M dollari australiani in Australia, sospettando che tali fondi siano stati utilizzati dal Cardinale Becciu per influire negativamente nel processo penale che lo vedeva imputato per abusi su minori.
La somma invece, come più volte ricordato, servì per il pagamento del dominio Internet “.catholic”. Questa informazione è stata opportunamente comunicataall’Ambasciata di Australia presso la Santa Sede con nota verbale 2112/21/RS del 18 febbraio 2021».
Quindi, oltre un anno fa.
Ma non finisce qui, sig. Presidente.
La mia amarezza è ancora più profonda nell’ apprendere, dalla lettura del carteggio che produco, che ad autorizzare il pagamento di detta somma fu proprio il Cardinale Pell, con una lettera datata 11 settembre 2015.”

PREFECT EMERITUS OF THE SECRETARIAT FOR THE ECONOMY
Yesterday (Thursday 5/5/2022) in the Vatican Court Cardinal Becciu gave a spirited defence of his blameless subordinate role in the Vatican finances. However his account was somewhat incomplete.
He did not explain the Secretariat of State’s rejection of the papally approved supervisory role of the new Council and Secretariat for the Economy. He did not explain his role in the sacking of the auditors PriceWaterhouseCoopers, and in the resignation of the Auditor, Libero Milone; both mandated to investigate Secretariat of State finances. His bizarre account of how the Secretariat of State spent the entire amount of Peter’s Pence (“Cosa mai restava quindidell’Obolo? Niente!”) is at odds with the official publicity for the fund, the Catholic people’s understanding and the annual Vatican financial reports. Talk of APSA is irrelevant. APSA never had a supervisory role with the Secretariat of State finances.
However my main purpose is to comment on Cardinal Becciu’s final remarks on the AUD 2.3 million paid to Neustar for the internet domain “.catholic” on 4/9/2015. Was the payment from the Council for Social Communications orfrom the Secretariat of State? The introduction of this claim only deepens the mystery.
Cardinal Becciu’s statement in the Vatican court is also interesting, different from his message to me of December 17th2020 that the destination of the funds from the Secretariat of State to Australia was none of my business, but was known to the Holy Father.
No one disputes that the Pontifical Council for Social Communications paid amounts to Neustar Australia for their expensive services and to ICANN, the registry, for the reservation of the title “Catholic” in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Doubts, of course, are removed by facts, by evidence, not assertions. Unfortunately, I do not have information on payments to Neustar Australia in 2015 beyond USD 150,000 the Council for Social Communications paid as a deposit. It was not my usual practice to sign off on payments from the Secretariat of State.
My interest is focussed on four payments with a value of AUD 2.3 million made by the Secretariat of State in 2017 and 2018 to Neustar Australia, two of which with a value of AUD 1.236 million were authorised by Monsignor Becciu on 17/5/2017 and 6/6/2018. Obviously, these are different payments from those of 11/9/2015 which I allegedly authorised. What was the purpose? Where did the money go after Neustar?
